A translation memory (TM) file is a database that consists of text segments in a
source language and their translations into one or more target languages. A segment
of a translation memory corresponds to one record in the TM file, and can consist
of two or more parallel phrases, paragraphs or headings (fragments of bilingual
or multilingual text). The use of translation memory offers clients a way to obtain
more consistent translations faster, as well as a way to reduce translation costs
significantly.
Subject to restrictions set forth in this website and the formal price quote, I
will apply an 80% discount to sentences, paragraphs, and headings in the source
document that exactly match existing TM segments.
For example, if the source document contains 1,000 words in new TM segments and
1,000 words in existing TM segments, I would charge 100% of the words in new TM
segments (1,000 words) plus 20% of the words in the existing TM segments (200 words),
which gives a total of 1,200 words.
The number of words in existing TM segments is the TM word count.
IMPORTANT: If a document has a total of 1,000 words and 200 of them are words in existing TM segments, the word count would be 800
and the TM word count would be 200.
